Home Economics 111: American Pie

COURSE SYLLABUS:

Introduction: We’ll learn about the history of pie in America; we’ll take a look at vintage and retro pie recipes; we’ll watch videos and tutorials on making pies and pie crust; and we’ll bake some pies for autumn celebrations! If you choose to participate in this class, expect to bake one pie a week in October and post a photo of your results in our Facebook group.

Week 1: October 1-7 – Apple Pie and Other Fruit Pies; Vegetable Pies

Potato pie, rhubarb pie, sweet potato pie, tomato pie

Week 2: October 8-15 – Pilgrim Pie, Pioneer Pie, Victorian Era Pies, Savory Pies

Week 4: October 24-31 – Holiday Pies; Pie in Popular Culture
